Darria D’Khia Wesley

Hi, I’m Darria!

Darria Wesley graduated from the University of North Texas with a BFA in Fashion Design. Originally from the small town of White Castle, Louisiana, she always dreamed of pursuing the arts. At the age of 4, her grandmother taught her how to thread a needle for the first time. When she moved to Texas in 2011, a whole new world of possibilities opened up to her. She’s passionate about using fashion as a form of expression while highlighting underrepresented communities and providing social commentary. This passion is evidenced by my research internship at the Texas Fashion Collection, where she explored the use of sewing and dress as protest within the Black community.

She has extensive experience in the bridal industry, having worked as a stylist and alterations assistant across various companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She’s skilled in pattern making, draping, sewing, and using a variety of software programs, including but not limited to, Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and CLo3D.

She hopes to use my skills to introduce color and flair to the traditionally conservative sectors of the bridal industry and evening wear. She believes in designing garments that are elegant yet uniquely expressive.
